Saranac Silver Argentium Silver |
Argentium Silver is a recently developed form of silver alloy which offers a number of advancements
over regular sterling silver. It is more ductile, can be made harder, has less heat conductivity and resists
firescale during soldering. Craftsmen and consumers alike will appreciate one other attribute; argentium
has an excellent resistance to tarnish!
Argentium has the same percentage of fine silver metal as regular sterling (92.5%). The
difference lies in the addition of Germanium to the rest of the alloy. Germanium oxide forms a transparent
and protective layer on the outside of the metal. This alloy requires minimal maintainance. An occasional
wash and rinse and/or wipe with a soft cotton cloth is all that's needed to keep the object in pristine
condition.
